Namaste: International playdate

Namaste...Hindi for hello! This week, we had two house guests. Kajal is a six-year-old Indian girl, blind from a very young age. Grace, her escort, found this sweet girl orphaned at a train station and brought her to the home she runs for trafficked and abused children in India. About 10 months ago, they came to Nashville to see a prominent eye surgeon who thought he may be able to restore her sight. This week ,we were able to host them in our home while they await Kajal's second surgery in December. What a week! From day one, Wesley and Kajal were fast friends. At bedtime Sunday night, Kajal joined Wesley and I for "snuggle time" in my bed. The kids were talking and laughing and snuggling, and somehow the subject came up of family and marriage (seriously! they are 3 and 6!). After a short discussion, Wesley told Kajal that when they were grown up, he would find her, and they could get married. "Yeah," she replied, "and we will have 3 children." By this time, I'm laughing aloud. Then Wesley said, "Well, maybe just one or two." Hysterical!
Grace cooked us some authentic Indian food, which was delicious. The kids had a blast together. Every moment was filled: coloring, riding bikes in the garage, pretending, talking (oh, the chatter!), singing, and endless other adventures. One morning, Wesley and Kajal were "husband and life" (Wesley's words), I was their child, and we were all on an international flight to Calcutta, India!
That is the week in a nutshell. Never a dull moment around here! Now I need a nap. :)

How great! I was able to go to India a few years back with my cousin, Usha, so she could see where she was born and her orphanage. It was awesome to do, but very humbling. I am so glad Wesley had a blast with Kajal. I hope her surgeries go well. I will keep this sweet girl in my prayers. Thank you for sharing!
